Welcome to Keep Calm and Empower your students!!! I have been educating young people for 22 years. I am still perfecting my craft by changing from a lead teacher to a coach who inspires and keeps students on their learning track.

As I return to class from Christmas break I plan to have my first graders write three learning goals. I will help them write a plan to achieve the goals. I chuckle thinking of my special superstars who will be baffled at selecting a goal at school. I have two or three little guys who come to school to play. That’s their top goal – here’s hoping they surprise me and I can “coach” them to put some “skin in the game”.

22 years teaching. How to be a friend, how to get along to work together are the most important skills I teach.

This is my fourth year in first grade. The Super Improvers Board from Whole Brain Teaching has been quite helpful for me with my little rascals. I had three little rascals that roll around on the floor, run down the hall and could not keep their hands to themselves. They transformed into responsible learners by October. How? I praised each of them for making good choices for 3 seconds and gave them a sticker. As soon as “DB” slowed down in the hallway I praised him for walking and gave him an improvement sticker. Soon he was walking down the hall quietly with his hands by his side!!
